Newly planted plants do not need added fertilizer. Their main requirement is adequate moisture. The attached link details the research confirming this. The recommendation is to add nothing to the planting hole.

It depends on what you are planting but you can’t go wrong with Espoma organic fertilizers. People have been using organic "fertilizers" with great success when they plant since the pilgrims planted a fish with their corn. If you are planting bulbs use Bulb*Tone, trees–use Tree*Tone, flowers–Flower*Tone, holly or any acid plants–use Holly*Tone. If you are doing a little pit of everything get a bag of Plant*Tone and one of Holly*Tone. Use the Holly*Tone on all acid plants and the Plant*Tone on everything else. You can make your own mixes but there is no need when Espoma researchers have already done it for you.

Note: It’s not always a good idea to use a "hot" chemical fertilizer like 12-12-12 when you plant. A lot depends on your climate.
